Prospectus for the Union Arts Council Competitive Art Exhibition

The 1st Annual Competitive Art Exhibition
Saturday, December 1, 2012 10:00am – 4:00pm
Farmerville High School Auditorium, 300 Anthony St., Farmerville
The Annual Competitive Art Exhibition, sponsored by the Union Arts Council, exists to promote and encourage the development and appreciation of art in Union Parish. It is our hope that this show will become an annual tradition alongside other local Christmas events, such as the Historic District Tour of Homes and the Christmas Parade.
Eligibility:
The 1st Annual Competitive Art Exhibition is open to all Union Parish artists, including adult professionals, adult amateurs, and youth in grades nine through twelve.
Judging:
Joni Noble, a practicing and exhibiting studio artist and former museum director, will judge Union Arts Council’s 1st Annual Competitive Art Exhibition. Noble is an associate professor of art education at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). The artist holds a BFA in painting from ULM, an MFA in photography from Louisiana Tech University, and a PhD in art education from the University of Texas at Austin. Her work can be viewed at Joni Noble (dot) com.
Fees: $15 for professional artists; $10 for amateur artists; free for youth. Each artist may exhibit three (3) works each. Adults may enter additional works for a fee of $5 per work, with a maximum of six (6) total works. Checks should be made payable to the Union Arts Council.

*Union Arts Council, a tax-exempt 501c3 organization, will retain 30% from all sales
Size/Hanging: With the exception of youth category, all adult works (2-dimensional) should be framed and ready to hang with secure wire attached to the back. No saw tooth hangers will be accepted. All framed artwork MUST be under plexiglass, with the exception of oils and acrylics. Maximum size is 36” wide. High school works may be unframed and will be displayed on tables.
Awards: Ribbons and cash awards to adult artists; youth artists will receive ribbons and gift certificates. A People’s Choice Award will also be awarded.
Categories: 2-dimensional (painting, drawing, printmaking, photography), 3-dimensional art (sculpture, ceramics), and folk art.
Liability: Reasonable care will be taken during the Exhibition to ensure that all works are handled safely and kept safe during the show. Neither the Union Arts, its members or agents, Farmerville High School, nor the Union Parish School District are responsible for damage or loss of any works or damages caused by or to displayed works.

A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS OF THE COMPETITIVE ART EXHIBITION WILL BE DONATED TO THE ART PROGRAM OF FARMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

Friday, November 30 – delivery of works to Farmerville High School Auditorium 11:00am-2:00pm
Friday, November 30 – Patron Party for event sponsors, who will have first choice of artworks that are for sale. 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, December 1 – Exhibition opens at 10:00am & continues until 4:00pm
Saturday, December 1 – ALL artwork must be Picked Up at 4:00pm
